Zebedee model Ella Chadwick was deemed a 'Child of Courage' at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards last night.

The awards, designed to highlight and recognise inspirational individuals among us, will be aired on ITV this November. And Ella is, indeed, an inspiration to all of us.

Diagnosed with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, Ella has spent six long years on dialysis, has endured 40 operations - two of which were kidney transplants - and is dependent on walking aids and a wheelchair.

When she was nominated to be the race starter at the Mini Great Manchester Run, she surprised everybody when she declared that she wanted to actually take part in the race, and did so with a smile on her face.

Since then, she has raised £5,000 for the hospital that treated her through cake sales, fun days, and - most impressively - running a total of 10km over a year.

Ella's mum, Karen, had this to say:

"The whole night was incredibly surreal, with Ella working the cameras on the red carpet, posing for all the press and doing interviews. She won everybody over and had a huge standing ovation and cheers. There will never be words to describe the emotions I felt during that moment. I'm the proudest mum ever."
